FAQ'S

WHAT IS CBD?

CBD is short for Cannabidiol. There are over a 100 cannabinoids inside a cannabis plant of which Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the most well-known. CBD does not make you high and is reported to have many beneficial qualities.

CAN I GET HIGH ON CBD?

No. In contradiction to Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) you can’t get high from CBD. In fact it is established that the anti-anxiety properties of CBD help to reduce the sometimes negative effects of THC.

IS CBD LEGAL?

To answer this we need to know where you are living as laws are different from country to country (and sometimes even from state to state). In Europe CBD with a content of less than 0.2% of THC is considered legal. Our products fully comply with this European directive.

ARE ALL CBD OILS EQUAL?

No. CBD oil is an essential oil from the cannabis plant. Often CBD oil is extracted from hemp. Hemp is a cannabis plant which is legally grown for the production of a.o. textiles. Hemp contains almost no THC, the psychoactive component in a cannabis plant which makes you high. CBD oils are extracted from the plant by using solvents. The most commonly used solvents are alcohol, butanol and CO2. Some producers stop here, but the higher quality producers include further steps. The next step after extraction is to remove unwanted organic components
(like chlorophyll, which gives the oil a green color). After this step the producer

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE BEST QUALITY CBD OIL?

It is very difficult to know the quality of the CBD oil which is used in most products available in the market and the quality varies enormously. There are two major points you have to look for. The first one is the basic quality of the CBD oil. A good quality CBD oil should be:

  • Safe, so free of contaminations like heavy metals, pesticides, molds and yeasts. The producer must be able to supply an analysis certificate for this.
  • Full spectrum, this means it must contain also all the other cannabinoids and terpenes

The second point you should look for is the bio-availability. CBD oil dissolved in oil is very difficult to absorb by your body. These oils all pass your digestive system and have to pass your liver to be absorb in your blood. In your blood CBD oil is metabolized which will strongly reduce its effect. Test have shown that in general CBD oils dissolved in oil are only absorbed 5-10% in your blood. This can be improved by taking the
oil together with eating a fatty meal but even then only up to 20% is absorbed in your blood. Water-soluble CBD oils (emulsified) are much faster and much better absorbed by your body. Bioavailability can be up to 100%!

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF CBD?

Scientific research now shows the many health benefits of CBD Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a component of marijuana but it does not produce the psychoactive effects that have made marijuana attractive for recreational use. CBD benefits are real because CBD does produce strong medicinal and therapeutic effects for even the most common conditions.

DIGESTIVE AID

A healthy appetite is vital to a healthy body, especially when the body is healing. Some illnesses decrease the appetite to the point of preventing the body from healing itself. CBD stimulates appetite, according to the National Cancer Institute. In the human body, CBDs bind to cannabinoid receptors in the body. Scientists believe these receptors play an important role in regulating feeding behavior. CBDs stimulate appetite when they dock onto these receptors.CBD also eases nausea and vomiting. This is especially helpful for individuals enduring chemotherapy and other treatments for serious diseases.

ANALGESIC

CBDs bind to CB1 receptors in the body to relieve pain. CBD also has an anti-inflammatory effect that reduces swelling.

ANXIETY RELIEF

CBD may alleviate severe social anxiety. Generalized Social Anxiety Disorder, or SAD, is one of the most common forms of anxiety disorders that impair quality of life. Some consumers complain of increased social anxiety after marijuana use but this may be due to low levels of CBD proportionate to the higher levels of THC.

In a 2011 study, scientists wanted to study the effects of CBD on people with SAD. The scientists selected 24 people with this condition who had never received treatment for SAD then divided participants into two groups. One group received 600 mg of CBD while the control group received a placebo. The scientists then asked study participants to take part in a simulated public speaking test while researchers measured blood pressure,
heart rate and other measurements of physiological and psychological stress.

The CBD group showed significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in their speech performance. In comparison, those in the placebo group presented higher anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 15 million adults in the United States have social phobia and about 6.8 million have a generalized anxiety disorder. Traditional treatment usually involves counseling and medications. Treatment with CBD may be better than anti-depressants because it acts quickly and does not cause side effects or withdrawal symptoms.

CANCER SPREAD

The National Cancer Institute details several studies into the anti-tumor effects of CBD. One study in mice and rats suggest CBDs “may have a protective effect against the development of certain types of tumors.” CBDs may do this by inducing tumor cell death, inhibiting cancer cell growth, and by controlling and inhibiting the spread of cancer cells.

One study by California Pacific Medical Center suggests CBD “turns off” the gene involved in the spread of breast cancer. These scientists found CBD inhibits ID-1, an action that prevents cancer cells from traveling long distances to distant tissues.

ANTIPSYCHOTIC

CBD relieves psychotic symptoms associated with schizophrenia, according to research by University of Cologne in Germany. Schizophrenia affects about 1.1 percent of the population, or approximately 2.4 million adults in the United States.

CBD continues to surprise medical researchers with the variety of common health benefits it provides. An increasing number of scientists, physicians and consumers are learning about these health benefits and incorporating CBD into a healthy lifestyle plan.

WHAT DOSAGES ARE RECOMMENDED FOR CBD?

GENERAL ADVICE TO ASSESS HOW MUCH CBD TO TAKE

Even with the wave of legalization of medical marijuana, many physicians are still reluctant to prescribe cannabinoids because they are not sure what dosages to prescribe. After all, most medical schools never cover CBD Cannabidiol in their pharmacology courses. Medical scientists are just now developing dosing schedules for medical marijuana, medicinal hemp and their extracts, including CBD.

CBD oil comes in various forms and concentrations, including liquid hemp oil, hemp oil as a thick paste, oil in capsules, sublingual tincture drops or sprays, salves for topical use, edibles as in candy or gum and CBD vapor from vaporizers similar to e-cigarettes.To be able to calculate your dosage you also have to understand the form in which you will take it.

Our water soluble, micelle enhanced, CBD oil has a bioavailability of close to 100%, meaning that what we mention on the label as CBD content is close to what really will become available to you. This is similar to what you get from smoking the CBD but much healthier and more precise and easier to dose. Most other major brands supply the CBD oil dissolved in oil and you can only calculate with 10% of the CBD content to become available to your body. For more information on this read our section on bioavailability.

Our water soluble, micelle enhanced, CBD oil contains 5% of CBD oil. This means in a 10 ml bottle there will be approximately 500 mg of CBD. On average a 10 ml bottle contains 200 drops from the dropper. So each drop will contain about 2.5 mg pure CBD.

EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT

The guidelines on this page are meant to be just that: a guideline, a starting point of reference. The fact remains that everyone is different and will react differently to their CBD dosage. As a serving size or dosage of CBD differs for each person, it is best to start small and gradually increase until you experience the desired result.

It is recommended that you try increasing your dosage every 3-4 weeks by 25 mg until symptom relief. And to decrease amount of CBD with any worsening of symptoms.

WHAT IS THE “ENTOURAGE” EFFECT?

The “entourage effect,” takes place when hundreds of natural components within a plant interact together and with the human body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components used alone. It's a synergistic effect. Simply speaking 2+2 = more than 4.

When we combine multiple compounds in their natural state, we don't end up with the sum of the parts; we get a multiplying effect instead. The different compounds can amplify each other's effects, making the overall plant more effective in treating the unwanted medical symptoms.

A large part of natural medicine is based on using the entire plant for medicinal purposes rather than isolating or producing the active ingredient in a laboratory. It's called whole plant medicine, and herbalists excel at matching holistic, plant-based treatments to a variety of ailments. In a world inundated with Western medicine, pills, and quick fixes, this approach may seem old-fashioned, but mounting evidence suggests that medical substances may be more effective in plant form than in pill form.
